In last years pool filtration systems are being developed to try to solve the disadvantages of sand systems. One of these is the diatom solution; diatoms are unicellular algae that represent one of the most important classes of marine microalgae and sweet water. These microalgae are surrounded by an external silicon skeleton, and with their porosity filter the water. The size of an alga goes from 2 microns to 1 millimeter.

QUARTZ SAND

The quartz sand is an agent with an high filtering capacity made up of micro grains of sand, and it’s absolutely the more used material for pools’ filtration, as also of aquariums, waste and drinking water. It’s able to retain debris, organic and inorganic material, algae and it’s on the basis of filtering technology of easy maintenance and guaranteed over time. Moreover, it’s suitable to each type of pool, both aboveground or underground pool.

GLASS POWDER

Filters with recycle glass are a technology very common to guarantee transparent and perfectly pure water. It’s a by-product of recycling glass reduced in grains of the same consistency than marine sand. This is absolutely an eco-friendly choice because glass is a material with the better performance in the recycle process. It has a filtering power higher than 200% compares to a normal sand filter and has a life cycle up to 3 times longer.

DIATOMITE ALGAE

Diatoms are unicellular algae that represent one of the most important class of marine micro algae and fresh water algae. These microalgae are surrounded by an external silicon skeleton, and with their porosity filter the water. The size of an alga goes from 2 microns to 1 millimeter. They are used through the “flour or sand” of fossil diatoms to filter the polluted water. Thanks to this material it’s possible to filter suspended solids, inorganic compounds, heavy metals and microorganisms. It’s a very used, classical and consolidated type of filtration. During filter backwashing, the filtration residues and diatoms have to be removed and replaced with new product.
